i am a master at acquiring new addictions. when drunk, i find ways to drink more. when sleepless, i feed myself with prescription drugs. for the past couple of days, i have been exhausted from the combination of family and work. i have stopped getting a rush from my coffees.

to function as a normal human being, i've found a new addiction - red bull. now i've always thought it was nasty shit you use to melt grease with like coke so i've never really fancied this - because my body is a sanctuary, NOT. but after fuelling on it for two days, its probably the best thing since *******. i've been buzzing through my afternoons and i feel patently alive.

i'm going to stock my fridge with these shiny slim cans since i'll need them before going to the gym, struggling through a long day or basically feeding my addiction for all things bad. plus it'll fit into my diet perfectly - its liquid.

when my friends look into my fridge, they only see:

1. wine
2. soda water
3. tonic water
4. up and go

which is supplemented with, when reconstituted:

5. protein shakes
6. isotonic sports powder

do i eat? of course i do. but only if it fits through a straw.....

5 spew back:

"Those slim shiny cans" you make it sounds so sexual and phallic! Are you really only stocking up on them for the purpose of drinking?

stick with your first impression - it really is nasty. The few times I had it I found I was getting really horrid headaches soon after consumption.

Besides being full of caffeine (it's wings) and sugar - I'm all for caffeine and sugar, I'm not some sort of health food freak BUT it also contains, amongst other things, taurine (this used to be extracted from bull bile but now made synthetically - the jury is still out on its benefits vs its side-effects) but each can also contains a considerable amount of a substance known as glucuronolactone - which some have said causes brain tumours - although I can find no research to support this. I guess the concerning thing about this substance is that what little research was done on it was done about 50 years ago and not much else has happened besided it being banned in the US.

I still think it's better to stick to the good old fashioned espresso - and maybe a daily dose of B group vitamins, particularly
B12.

Okay. I'm done sermonising now.

Sorry - not the US but Denmark, Finland, Norway, France and a few other countries... you can get it in Canada now where it was banned until recently.

There. Really done now.
